A system that might last 18–20 years in a dry climate often shows its age closer to 12–15 here. If your system is in that range, every repair is a different calculation — you’re not just fixing a problem, you’re extending equipment that’s already near the end of its run.

You’ve repaired it more than once in the last two summers. One repair is normal. Two is a pattern. Three is a system telling you something. The 50% rule is a useful benchmark: if the cost of a repair exceeds 50% of what a new system would cost, replacement almost always makes more financial sense.
